北陸新幹線は、東京から長野・富山・金沢を経て、敦賀までを結ぶ新幹線。
東京から高崎、軽井沢を経て長野方面へ向かい、長野県北部の山岳地帯を長大トンネルで通過する。
その後は日本海側へ抜け、富山平野や加賀平野を横断し、福井を経て敦賀へ至る。
豪雪地帯を走行することから、各所に雪対策設備が整備されていることも特徴のひとつである。
1997年に高崎～長野間が「長野新幹線」として開業し、2015年に金沢、2024年には敦賀まで延伸された。
現在は「かがやき」「はくたか」「あさま」などが運転され、首都圏と北陸地方を結ぶ重要な高速交通機関となっている。
また、敦賀以西では大阪方面への延伸計画が進められている。
The Hokuriku Shinkansen is a high-speed rail line connecting Tokyo with Tsuruga via Nagano, Toyama, and Kanazawa.
From Tokyo, the line passes through Takasaki and Karuizawa before heading toward Nagano, then traverses the mountainous regions of northern Nagano Prefecture through a series of long tunnels. It subsequently emerges on the Sea of Japan coast, crosses the Toyama and Kaga Plains, and continues through Fukui to Tsuruga.
As the line passes through areas known for heavy snowfall, extensive snow protection measures have been incorporated along the route. The section between Takasaki and Nagano opened in 1997 as the Nagano Shinkansen, before being extended to Kanazawa in 2015 and to Tsuruga in 2024.
Today, services such as the “Kagayaki,” “Hakutaka,” and “Asama” operate on the line, providing an important high-speed transportation link between the Tokyo metropolitan area and the Hokuriku region.
Further west, plans are underway to extend the line beyond Tsuruga toward Osaka.
