The Akita Shinkansen is a “mini‑shinkansen” route connecting Morioka and Akita.
The E6 Series Komachi reaches Japan’s top speed of 320 km/h on the Tohoku Shinkansen,
then enters the conventional Tazawako Line at Morioka, slowing down as it winds into the mountains.
This seamless transition from high‑speed railway to conventional track is one of the line’s defining features.
As the train approaches the Ōu Mountains, the greenery deepens;
the quiet waters of Lake Tazawa and the samurai residences of Kakunodate lend a calm, timeless atmosphere to the region.
