上越新幹線は、東京・大宮から新潟までを結ぶ新幹線。
関東平野を抜け、上毛高原や越後湯沢といった山間部を経て、日本海側の新潟へと至る。
高崎〜越後湯沢間には中山トンネル、大清水トンネルなどの難所が連なり、開業当時の技術の粋が注がれた。
1982年に大宮〜新潟間が先行開業し、1991年に東京まで運転を開始した。
現在は「とき」「たにがわ」が運行され、首都圏と新潟を結ぶ大動脈として活躍している。
雪国と首都圏を結ぶこの路線は、地域の経済や観光を支える重要な存在だ。
The Jōetsu Shinkansen is a high-speed rail line connecting Tokyo and Ōmiya with Niigata.
After departing the Kanto Plain, it traverses mountainous regions such as Jōmō-Kōgen and Echigo-Yuzawa before reaching the Sea of Japan coast at Niigata.
Between Takasaki and Echigo-Yuzawa, the route includes challenging sections like the Nakayama and Daishimizu Tunnels, showcasing the pinnacle of engineering at the time of construction.
The line initially opened between Ōmiya and Niigata in 1982, with service extended to Tokyo in 1991.
Today, the “Toki” and “Tanigawa” services operate along the line, serving as a vital artery between the capital region and Niigata.
Linking the snow country with the metropolis, the Jōetsu Shinkansen continues to play a key role in supporting regional economy and tourism.
